Scientists and colleagues from the Institute for Animal Health’s (IAH) dairy will feature at this event, which is being held in National Science and Engineering week.
The festival will feature a range of activities that highlight the role of science in:
- food
- farming
- rearing of animals
IAH will be using life-sized model cows to demonstrate how milk is produced and collected, and illustrating the story of milk production with a cartoon video. Visitors will be able to get their hands into ‘cow food’, grown on the Institute’s farm, and parallels will be drawn with human nutrition.
In the Laboratory and Health Centre area visitors will look at bacteria and viruses, again with respect to both livestock and people. Microscopes will be available to view live midges, which spread bluetongue virus to cattle and other livestock.
Amongst others present will be Marty Jopson of BBC’s ‘The One Show’, who will be on stage with ‘Experiments that Changed History’, and ‘Body Tricks’, and the science behind them.
