Global Food Security and BBSRC at the Oxford Farming Conference 2011

11 January 2011

The Global Food Security Partnership attended the Oxford Farming Conference 2011 with a display presented by BBSRC. The need for research to underpin future food security was discussed throughout the conference and the Global Food Security stand proved a useful focus for discussion and attracted one very high profile visitor.

BBSRC’s Head of Public Engagement, Dr Patrick Middleton said “We were absolutely delighted that Her Royal Highness The  Princess Royal visited the Global Food Security stand at this year’s Oxford Farming Conference. The issue of food security is an important one, and we are working hard to ensure that excellent research is carried out in the UK that will underpin future developments in this area – it is really wonderful to know that there is such high profile interest in what we are doing.”

In the following video, BBSRC's director of research, Professor Janet Allen, is talking about the conference and outlines the issues surrounding global food security.
