Video transcript: Professor John Lucas discusses ongoing crop improvement goals

Professor John Lucas in a field
"These long-term experiments at Rothamsted have been extremely valuable in demonstrating how one can improve the productivity of crops by growing them in an appropriate way with appropriate inputs. But this is actually an ongoing process. We still need to improve the quality of our crops and their performance and we're engaged in research where we're trying to produce crops that need fewer inputs. For instance, less fertiliser, more efficient use of the nutrients, more effective defence against pest and diseases, more resistance to drought and some of the other things that are going to be extremely important in the future with predictive climate change, stresses that crops will be exposed to."
