A team from the Policy Lab workshop were awarded a prize of £5,000 to produce a report examining how we can provide food alongside other ecosystem services, incorporating examples of best practice from other countries.
An interdisciplinary group of researchers attended a three day workshop, forming small groups to consider future priorities for policy to better support multi-functional landscapes. One group was awarded £5,000 to develop a Policy Lab report and journal publication based on their work.
Working group findings were published as two reports: Environmental tipping points and food system dynamics: Executive Summary; and Environmental tipping points and food system dynamics: Main Report. These reports were unveiled at a Parliamentary event attended by MPs, policy-makers, leading industry figures, researchers and funding agencies.
This report details outcomes and recommendations from an inter-disciplinary and inter-sectoral working group considering tipping points in the food system. Their work provides evidence for the existence of environmental tipping point as well as an exploration of their potential consequences for global food security and options for risk mitigation.

GFS and the ‘Food System Resilience’ programme partners are pleased to announce that Dr John Ingram and his team at the Environmental Change Institute in the University of Oxford have been awarded the programme coordination award.
Projects including research into protecting crops from pests and increasing tolerance to adverse weather conditions will share the funding.
The Global Food Security (GFS) Programme has published a new report, describing how the UK and China could work together to tackle the effects of extreme weather on the food system.

GFS collaborated with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to hold the UK-China Workshop on extreme weather and global food system resilience. This workshop report provides an overview of how extreme weather might impact food production in China, how Chinese food policy and trade might affect the global market, and a number of shared future research priorities.
